A Return to the Hard Court

I have talked about my good friend Brian Medford and the Medford classic before here and here.  On July 25th Team Red Sauce will be returning to the hard courts of Kiwanis Park for the Fourth Annual Medford Classic.  We fell short of the finals last year so we are looking to redeem ourselves and make a push to take down the two time defending champs.

This event is put together by the friends and families that were all touched by Brian while he was here with us.  For information about the mission of the Annual Medford Classic look here.  All proceeds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  The 3 on 3 tournament is not the only thing going on in Kiwanis Park.  There will be prizes available for all in attendance.

2008 Raffle prizes included: 6 Steeler football tickets and gift basket, 4 Pitt basketball, Beauty Basket courtesy of Valerie’s Hair Design, 4 Cleveland Indians baseball tickets + hotel accommodations, Macy’s gift basket, Sivioni’s Italian gift basket, and many more prizes from your local retailers and companies!!

The Central Blood Bank will also be in attendance.

The Central Blood Bank joined efforts with the Annual Medford Classic in 2008! We are excited to announce their return in 2009 where they will bring their donor coach for those wishing to make a blood donation.

Your lifesaving donation could help many individuals, just like Brian, who are in need of blood products during their treatments.

Qualifications: To donate whole blood, you must be at least 17 years of age and at least 110 pounds in generally good health. You also must show photo ID at the time of donation.

Here are the details of last year’s tournament.

The Third Annual Medford Classic was held on July 19, 2008 for the second year at the Basketball Courts in Kiwanis Park in Shaler. Another beautiful day brought many family members, friends, and community members to the event to raise $2,150 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, surpassing our goal of a $2,000 donation! With 17 teams in the tournament, a half time skills competition to win a Willie Parker autographed football, over 15 raffle baskets including Steeler tickets, the Third Annual Medford Classic was a success that left us anticipating the event next year in 2009.

This year’s event includes several new ways for people to donate and raise money, including an

The team that brings in the MOST monetary donations to The Annual Medford Classic by July 25, will be eligible for an EXCITING NEW AWARD!

In order to donate you can commit to your pledge here. For information regarding donations you can email  The award to me is not as important, as the opportunity to raise more funds for this great event.  So if you are interested in donating go to the above link and help support the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.

If you are in the Pittsburgh area on July 25th, come on out to Kiwanis park and support Team Red Sauce (Adam P., Mike M., and Seth D.), take your chance at winning some great raffle prizes, or even donate some of your blood.
